Omar has been on the Underground Cuban Hip Hop scene since the early 90’s. He was the vocal Beatbox machine for Canyman & Donatos early recordings in a group known as Crazyman
I just had to write something about this situation. Anyone who knows me or has followed Trespeso knows, it’s not just about selling our music from Cuba it’s as much about all the personal struggles that each every Urban Artist in Cuba deals with cada fucking dia ! tu sabe. We have always advocated & promoted other artists from Cuba such as Donato & Aldeanos etc etc without any commercial interest, fact is we see and feel it to be just a bigger part of the struggle for the musical soul of country so fucked over by National Govt dellusion & exploitative forieign interest. There are very underhanded aspects to the music scene in Cuba, and foriegn interests in talent such as Elvis Manuel that for the most part go unknown my many Cubanos in Miami. la mecca
goes both ways, for Cubans & Yumas. La Tuba by Elvis Manuel, such a phenominal hit, nationally in Cuba then spreading like fire to the North & all over Europe. Elvis Manuel = $$$$$$$$ if he lands in Miami & I sincerely hope he does somehow or at the least somewhere safe. If thats the case bueno, we all can be happy that he will be OK and very likely climb to the top of the game he certainly has the Balls & talent to take down the Boriqua stronghold over the Urban Latin Music scene alone. My angst & fuego por la situacion ecomicamente. Who the fuck in Elvis Manuels inner circle, especially the foreign interest in exploiting his talent abroad, would advocate putting him on a boat to Miami, that obviously was not somehow 100% paid off and Guaranteed to land him safely. Or even spend the extra 4 or 5k get him out to Europe then the states. I hope that I am wrong, I hope that someone smarter than me hiciste un tremenda mecca por esa Chama Elvis Manuel & that he pops up on TV with Carlos very soon ????
If some fucking mongo payaso foreigner put him up to this on the cheap. And he’s lost his life because of it, then the streets of Cuba will tell his story & I for one, will post it everywhere on the web. Bottom line is, it did not even have to go down like this. Elvis Manuel is not in the same position in Cuba like Reiner (El Medico) or Ruben (Candyman) Elvis Manuel could have left Cuba on a Plane with Visa !! la Verdad not easy not cheap but definately not impossible enough to risk una lancha pa norte…. pa tu sepas bien.
WE all hope and pray that Elvis Manuel is OK & soon we may see him rise and shine, and bring some Cuban swing to this music bizzo.

In mid Jan Gagolin (la familia) put on concert at Cabilde en Santiago with some of Stgo hottest talent including “del mas historico” CANDYMAN. The song is Agarrala & features Pucho & Micky from La KM

Vatoz Locoz are still the most feared and respected artists in Santiago, they continue to do features with Candyman, Puchoman, Gagolin & a string of others on a regular basis. BURN NOTICE lands on TV3 this show has been a huge success on USA’s Newtwork Cable, in the states & now appears to have been syndicated & goes’ to air tonight in NZ on TV3 @ 9.30 it’s worth watching if only to peep the MIAMI Lifestyle. I tell poeople it’s like CSI meets MACGYVER !!!!

Baby White, from Holguin are Trespeso’s newest gems. Although a solo act Gabriel works closely with DJ Danny, which really makes up what is Baby White. Gabriel also has worked with Kiki Productions, Trespeso’s head producer. Baby White crosses all genres with Ragga being the main theme,they also do ballads, Reggae, Reggaeton and a harder edge style of Hip Hop. What was once just a simple favour for one Cuban Hip Hop group (Rezistencia/TNT) from Santiago de Cuba. As it was pay for their demo recording, shoot some video & build a basic website. Then from there things grew and a hobby was born. I guess it was as a personal gesture of appreciation for the Cuban Urban Culture & something to get involved with on a grassroots level in Cuba.
So that initial hobby evolved to become Trespeso Music (a collective of artists in Stgo & Label/Pub. Company in NZ) & is the largest representation of Urban Cuban talent on the web. Musically we are mainly focussed on the genres of Hip Hop, Reggaeton, Ragga & Perreo but thats evolving as Urban Latino’s the world over expand their identities in other genres. All of which is reflected in los Urbanos Cubanos.

Trespeso’s struggle has been relentless since 2003 with no marketing budget, but yet we have sucessfully accquired a good amount of virtual realestate online & will continue to employ a variety of Guerilla Marketing tactics where ever possible & we’ll always welcome new soldiers willing to step up & help get the word out about our music. Unlike conventional Artist/Label functionality WE CAN NOT YET derive any income from live performances in Cuba. Nada Zip Zilch ni un kilo…. Nor can any individual artists in Trespeso participate in their own online promotion or interaction, No radio interviews, No TV Spots, No Guest appearances, No festival events or magazine interviews. We have been fortunate enough to have a growing volume of songs placed in several TV Shows including CBS long runner King of Queens, and Nickelodeons Just Jordan and most exciting is the new series Burn Notice it’s about a former Spy who’s been cut off, it’s set in MIAMI’s Sth Beach, has great writers behind it with something in the plot for everyone. Currently on the USA Network through Direct TV
Having those songs place is a real important move for Trespeso’s Artists as the whole music industry seems to be in state of nervous eon-flux as the growing gazillions of online users perpetually download for free more often than not, via forums, p2p & torrents apps. Now I am not screaming theft or trying to sink the pirate ship, but I do ask if you really like our music & believe in what Trespeso is doing please consider we can not generate income any other way except online Sales or Licensing of our Music, besides most should know we have never been stingy in posting up various MP3’s in forums & throughout our site.
